Artemis Hatzigeorgiou is Professor of Bioinformartics at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Thessaly since 2012. She received an MSE in Computer Science from the University of Stuttgart and a PhD. in Molecular Biology from the University of Jena in 2001. In the same year she joined the University of Pennsylvania (Upenn) as assistant professor of Bioinformatics. At 2007 she joined as Principal Investigator at the Biomedical Sciences Research Center “Alexander Fleming” in Greece.
She is co-author of the Stuttgart Neural Network Simulator (SNNS), a world – wide used open-source software for the simulation of Artificial Neural Networks and has developed a numerous computational algorithms for the analysis of RNA sequences. The webpage “www.microrna.gr” that hosts programs and databases developed by her group counts more than 10,000 visits per month.
She has published in top tier journals as Nature, Science, Nature Communications, PNAS, AJHG, G&D and has served as a panelist for NSF and the National Institute of Health of the USA. Her work has been cited close to 10,000 times until now. Artemis Hatzigeorgiou received at 2003 the Early Carrier Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the USA.
